Artificial Insemination is an Assisted Reproductive Technique that consists of administering drugs that stimulate the growth of one to three follicles in the ovaries.
This promotes ovulation, allowing a sample of semen to be deposited in the uterus through a soft catheter. It is a form of in vivo fertilization, where the creation of the embryo takes place inside the uterus instead of in a laboratory.
The semen sample is improved by sperm capacitation, a process that normally occurs naturally in the womb – changes in sperm membrane give you the best opportunity to penetrate the outer layer of the egg, and chemical changes in the queue allow greater mobility. Combined with a course of fertility drugs that promote the growth of ovarian follicles, this technique massively increases the chances of a successful pregnancy.
This artificial insemination technique is best suited for young couples with mild fertility problems, such as decreased sperm count or sexual dysfunction, and can be used in conjunction with many of our other fertility treatment courses.
